Helen, Georgia is a quaint Alpine Village in the north Georgia mountains. Every year they put on an Oktoberfest every day for 7 weeks! The town comes alive!!! There are lots of interesting little shops, good restaurants and clubs - some featuring authentic German food, golfing, horseback riding, a great model railroad exhibit, arts and crafts, a winery and more with the Chattahoochee River running through the town. The actual Oktoberfest features a 700 seat Festhalle and Beer Garden, with lots of wurst (sausage), German potato salad, kraut & pickles. They also serve hot dogs, chicken fingers, nachos, BBQ sandwiches, giant pretzels, popcorn, chips, etc. There are lots of varieties of beer, wine and soft drinks. The best part of the Festhalle is the entertainment. Several different German bands that play anything from authentic German music to a cross section for dancing, singing, many toasts and just plain fun! The admission price is normally $9.00 per person (food and drinks sold separately). We may be able to get in at lowered rate Saturday night - depending on our head count. The Festhalle is open daily 6-11:30 P. M. Saturday 1-11:30 P. M. & Sundays free admission 1-7 P. M. Pat will get back to you this part.
